Our landscape design for Lijnden Q4, submitted along with an urban plan by INBO Amsterdam, comprises two public spaces: a green fringe around a block of new patio homes and an enclosed patio at its centre. The green fringe consists of six areas with different kinds of grasses and has a natural look. The patio —the entrance to the homes— has an informal design, with a single level pavement, where pedestrians and bikers come before cars. An important element in the patio's design is the drainage of rain water, which runs from the homes’s rainwater pipes through beautifully shaped open gutters into basins in the middle of the patio. The basins contain water-loving plants such as ferns and gunnera. Transparent trees and seats stand between the basins.
