LOOS van VLIET is working on the park surrounding the prestigious Sofitel Marina Hotel, the CIC (Centre International de Conférences), a casino and a nightclub in Cotonou, Benin, on the coast of West-Africa. MOKE Architecten is the architect of the buildings. The park is divided into different parts: entrance, conference garden, art park, hotel garden and sports area. The existing planting will be integrated in the plan. New plant and tree species are added to increase the diversity in the area. Running water is used as a continuous element. In the park there are four special gardens. The design of these gardens was based on traditional wax patterns coming from the textile industry. This results in winding paths and organically shaped flowerbeds. Red blossoming trees form a repetitive feature. By planting grasses and low bushes between the trees, open and closed spaces are created. Details such as lighting and high-quality road surfacing contribute to the luxurious character of the park.
