LOOSvanVLIET was commissioned by BPD and KlaassenGroep to work on the urban development and visual quality plan for Plakse Weide, a new residential area on the east side of Duiven. About 300 homes will be built in Plakse Weide in the future. At least 70% of the homes will fall under the affordable housing category. Plakse Weide is divided into three green areas: a blue and green park zone as the outer edge with green car-free wedges perpendicular to it, opening onto a central park area. Historically, many different types of fruit occur in the region around Arnhem (also known as the Liemers). Fruit (-growing) has therefore been used as a design theme. It gives the neighbourhood its identity. Fruit not only colours the atmosphere in the outdoor space, but also returns as a theme in the architecture. Figuratively, for instance in the form of patterns as brickwork, but also literally in the form of fruit trees against the façade. 4-09-2023
