A fence is used as the physical separation in order to regulate the accessibility. This is also the case in the design of the exterior of First. The gate is incorporated in the floor plan as an autonomous line. It crosses borders and paths. The design theme is about separation and spatial continuity. The design balances between secrecy and transparency. The fence consists of a bottom line of vertical brackets made of flat steel. From the bottom line the flat steel is twisting. As a result, the bottom side in the view is relatively closed, and the bracket upwardly transparent. The transparency changes with the angle at which the fence is seen. In the diagonal view, the transparency below and above is the same. The flat steel twists in alternate directions. This creates an additional differentiation which by reflection and shadow still gives an extra dimension to the fence. 03-11-2016
