In the harbour our city Semarang on Java lies an old VOC fortress, the ‘Kota Lama’. By decline of the soil, this part of the city has long time been too wet for development. Now Indonesia is preparing reclamation arise unique opportunities for revitalizing this cultural heritage. This month, a spatial vision was presented to the municipality in which different cultural and historical time layers are made visible. Fort and fortress are being emphasized the city by the construction of an open park area with city walls planted with Eucalyptus trees. This greening provides a welcome cooling relaxation in the city. The master plan provides for restructuring of infrastructure, water management, building structure and renovating dilapidated culture historically valuable buildings. The ‘Kota Lama’ in the vision is the beating heart of nightlife, culture and history. The integral concept is proposed for obtaining the UNESCO status. In collaboration with Architecten van Mourik.
