The Wandelbos in Hoofddorp dates from 1930. Wandelbos, Tennispark and Fruittuinen together will become the new Stadspark of Hoofddorp. The development of the town centre and the new neighbourhood Hyde Park asked for a Stadspark with more amenities. Atelier LOOSvanVLIET presented a preliminary design to the municipality of Haarlemmermeer and their inhabitants. The proposal was well received. The existing Wandelbos in gardenesque, landscape style was designed by Wieger Bruin. Our design elaborates on this style. Het Stadspark will have an open character with meandering paths, sloping lawns for sunbathing, white polder bridges, a pond with fountain and beautiful vistas. A 3,5 metre wide asphalt pathway takes the visitor throughout the park. You walk along the tennis courts and amphitheatre towards the pond with fountain and wooden deck. At the far end of the park you will find a Vlindertuin (butterfly garden) where flowerbeds are sorted by colour. Selected flowers attract the butterflies. Every 300 meters you see a different flower illustration. From the butterfly garden the path leads through the Fruittuinen to the Loods with catering facilities. On his walk the visitor passes several playing fields which are equipped for children of all ages. The entrances of the park are marked with totem poles used as insect hotels. To ensure a better water quality a new connection to the canal will be made. All dams will be removed to get a free flow. If possible no trees will have to be cut down and a number of blossoming park trees will be added. In the Fruittuinen you will find a strip of valuable orchises. Another part is used for a special kind of mowing, i.e. sinus mowing. These places of ecological importance will remain as they are.
