Manrong is a newly planned city district of Shenyang. It will accommodate mixed use program of housing, offices and culture facilities. For this city extension is a new system of green spacesis designed which is based on existing water structure. Along every river a park is designed with a distinctive character. The embankment of the Hun River will keep its natural atmosphere as in the other parts of the city. Along the Baita River an English style landscape park is designed with meandering river, groups of trees and ornamental grasses. Lao Bei River will continue its character from the neighboring Changbai district. The northern embankment will have a geometric style with a boulevard along the water and trees planted in orthogonal grid. The southern river bank will be formed naturally with an organic path system. Oxygen bar is a park on the east border between Manrong and Changbai along the existing railway tracks. It will provide both districts a rich sport program. The Blue Sea becomes the central park of the Manrong district. The structure of the park is divided accordingly to the golden section rule into three parts. One part will be occupied by a cluster of high-rise buildings which will create an urban icon of the whole district. In the smallest part a museum of modern art will be located with a surrounding art park. The biggest part of the Blue Sea will be occupied by the lake with an outdoor theater, water gardens and natural islands. All elements of the Blue Sea Park will be connected by a royal promenade with pink blooming cherry trees. The new recreation system will improve the aesthetic qualities of the new urban area and will link new neighborhoods with nature. Green spaces will encourage social contact among residents and thus will create safer neighborhoods. Trees and other plants will help to create microclimate in the city by absorbing pollutants, moderating city temperatures, creating humidity in the summer, controlling wind chill in the winter and refracting noise.
