After previously drafting the urban and spatial quality plans for Veghels Buiten, Freek Loos has become a member of the supervision committee of Veghels Buiten. The sub plan Oude Ontginning consists of small scale development of agricultural (residential) farmyards, inspired by the original ‘Brabantse’ farmyards. There is no preselection of the architects, but guidance during the design process. The plans will be reviewed 2-5 times by the supervision committee. At the end, the committee will give their conclusive advice. The architects are encouraged to choose a clear architectural vision and consistently draw up the design into detail. The plans clearly gain more and more quality. The additional value of the guidance during the design process is even greater than expected. For the sub plan Nieuwe Ontginning, a design challenge was announced. Architects were invited to submit designs including cost calculation that meet the quality standards. The intended goal is to construct a specific residential document ‘Veghels Buiten’ and organize a fair during which architects and clients can meet each other. The supervision committee guides the preliminary designs by letter and assesses the design whether they are of sufficient potential quality to include them in the residential document. Guidance by the supervision committee continues when the architect and the client come to an agreement and submit their plans. This manner of supervision has proved to be an effective way of directing the elaboration of the urban plans.
