The current public space in the center of Den Burg is dated in terms of paving material and choice of furniture. One of the design goals was to design a timeless design and create a clear separation between the Groeneplaats and the Vismarkt by placing new buildings on the site of the former 'Raaksje'. A selected color palette for the materials and a timeless design for the urban furniture gives a chic character to the inner city. To create a unity in the pavement of the squares and surrounding streets a pattern of a red bricks is proposed. Existing trees are kept as much as possible. To reinforce the different characters of the squares, one large beech on the Groeneplaats and three small hawthorns will be added to the Vismarkt. In the squares a family of furniture is proposed consisting of dark steel in combination with wood. Height differences are solved by adding natural stone steps. Referring to the traditional sheep market at the Groeneplaats, the square is decorated with three types of brass sheep feet that form a trail to the tree. Large wooden light poles have already been placed to illuminate every space well.
